Adorable Adventures - Waterfall

A waterfall I made for Adorable Adventures: https://store.steampowered.com/app/3840230/Adorable_Adventures/ I feel that waterfalls are always a bit scary to make. They are huge and very present in the environment. They need to look good from afar as well as up close and often even while walking through. But as so often, at the end they are "just" a mesh with scrolling textures and some splash particle effects. And maybe a post fx for some nice droplets on the camera lens. :)

A waterfall I made for Adorable Adventures. Is there something hidden behind it? We may never find out.

Always fascinating to me, that a waterfall begins to shine when adding the splashes. Before it's always a bit ... "rigid". Lifes then comes with the water splashes. The crossed plane fakes volume when watching the waterfall from the side.

First versions are usually slapped together very quickly so that the level designers can already place something. Later I refine the work.

Heavily copied/inspired by Ben Cloward's great tutorial "Rain Drips On The Lens Post-Process Effect": https://youtu.be/jfXJYPTdyAg

Some of the textures I created by photo-mashing. Reduced overdraw by using simple ring-meshes as geometry particles for the water ripples.

The game features cute interactions like taking a bubble bath. Don't ask where the soap comes from!
